As announced in the Tapei Zoo thread, 1.1.0 pangolins (species not named, however, presumed to be Manis pentadactyla) are due to arrive at Zoo Leipzig from Tapei Zoo.

7 Easter quolls were born last year. Unfortunately Leipzig was the only breeder in europe once again in 2023.

Kobenhavn Zoo had also bred them last year for the first time ;)

Last week a Nile lechwe (Kobus megaceros) was born!

Recently the first two Lesser flamingos (Phoeniconaias minor) of the year hatched, Leipzig has around 70 lesser flamingos.

Zoo Leipzig received a new male amur leopard called Checco. He came from Parco Zoo Punta Verde in Italy. Do anyone know what happened with the previous male Xembalo?

A female lion tailed macaque is suspected to have been stolen. There are traces of trapping and burglary. The zoo is working with the police to find the perpetrators.

    Instagram post of the news.

Goodness me. That is appalling if it turns out to be true.

This a dramatic turn of events. I do hope that law enforcement will now accord due diligence in dealing with the criminal networks active in the illegal wildlife trade

It is well known that law enforcement is usually a rather inept and passive reactive policy and response with not much ado.
(other than to placate the masses within the - with mostly only economic interests at heart and non specific trade versus category of threat in mind, and least of all Conservation nor Conservation Breeding - legal framework CITES).

If this turns out to be organised crime rather than a spontaneous act by stupid individuals, the implications for zoos everywhere too scary to think about.

I think you two are making this way daunting than it actually is, but that's just my honest opinion; the monkey has already returned the zoo, it was spotted by a jogger on a tree in the city, police caught it and returned it, from a quick veterinary checkup it doesn't seem to have been injured.

I think you underestimate to what length the illegal wild animal trade has invaded regular society and is able to pull off stealing zoo animals overnight.

Plus, I do view AW-activists potentially releasing zoo animals as another real and major concern in their stary eyed belief that Freedom is Final.
